::::: Biography

Tanja was born in Vienna, Austria but grew up in Germany, where she worked as a journalist for Esquire magazine.
In 1989 she moved to Australia where she studied first Art, then Film. She completed a Bachelor of Film and Television
at the Victorian College of the Arts film school in 1995.

Tanja made several short films which were screened at film festivals all over the world.
Her TV documentary Death and Passion was filmed on location in Spain and in 2004 Tanja travelled 9000
kilometres throughout Australia to direct a travel documentary for German television.

In recent years, Tanja's creativity has found a new form of expression through a steadily developing sculpture practice.
She has exhibited in various exhibitions throughout Victoria and has recently won first Prize for her sculpture 'One World'
at the INSPIRED Art Award in Melbourne.

::::: Artist Statement

In the fabrication of my sculptures I use a vast variety of materials. My fascination lies with everyday objects,
discarded industrial-mechanical components and wood. They have become the basis for my recent sculptural work.
Just as the objects, which I use in my work, seem to have reached the end of their life span, I transform them into something new.
To me they are treasures that have an aesthetic life beyond their function. My work seeks to acknowledge their beauty and value.
By reinventing them, I give them a new life, as slightly jaded, often humorous sculptures.
